Campaign Docs

The Goal

The goal of the diocesan-wide Called by Name campaign is to identify faithful young men ages 15-35 who love Christ and the Church and who may be open to the priesthood. Parishioners are invited to submit the names of young men they would like to honor.

Men whose names are submitted will receive a letter of recognition from Cardinal Tobin, invitations to discernment events, and ongoing support from the Vocation Team.

Three Main Things

  • PRIESTS are asked to share their vocation stories at Mass
  • PARISHES are asked to put Called by Name cards in pews
  • PARISHIONERS are invited to submit the names of faithful young men they would like to honor

Timeline

April 9 | Parishes receive Called by Name box

This box will include pew cards, along with hard copies of a sample homily, prayers of the faithful, a pulpit announcement, and bulletin inserts.

April 18-19 | Announcement Weekend

  • Include Cardinal Tobin’s letter to the faithful in the bulletin and all parish communications (email, Flocknote, social media, etc.)
  • Read pulpit announcement at all Masses to introduce Called By Name
  • Ensure volunteers or parish staff will place cards in pews at all Masses on April 25-26.

April 25-26 | Called by Name Sunday

  • Ensure pew cards are placed in pews at every Mass.
  • In the homily, share your 3 to 5 minute vocation story and what you love about being a priest
  • At the end of the homily, invite parishioners to submit names and contact info, either online or via the pew card
  • Include special petitions in the Prayer of the Faithful
  • Include blurb in the bulletin

Mailing Pew Cards

Please return the filled out pew cards received in the collection baskets by mail. It would be greatly appreciated if parish staff could look over the pew cards and fill in any missing information that the parish has on file before mailing the cards. This will help ensure that we can provide the nominees with vocation resources. A return envelope was included in the package with the pew cards, but if it has been misplaced, please mail cards to:

  • Vianney Vocations: Called By Name Processing

Again, thank you so much for all you are doing to make this campaign a success! Your efforts are deeply appreciated.
